M, I have an Inspiron 5000. I installed potato on it a few months ago. The resource page mentioned in earlier e-mails should prove amply useful. If you are having trouble with the mouse, check your BIOS settings. I recollect there is one setting that allows the BIOS to autodetect when the mouse is attached, and to use the touchpad when the mouse is disconnected.
Like it was mentioned earlier, you should be able to use the PS/2 option for your mouse (didn't work for me). Try using XF86Setup. I use "Microsoft" as the protocol option and "/dev/gpmdata" as the mouse device. I also installed the "gpm" package. I don't know if the package has any relationship to the device... but I thought you should have the whole picture of my setup. Currently, my system auto-switches between the touchpad and the mouse (Logitech). The scrolling button doesn't work, but the left and the right button work just fine for what I use them. -Andy Saxena ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 06, 2000 11:32 PM Subject: Laptop install woes > Greetings, > > I am trying to install Potato on my Dell Inspiron laptop. > > This is my first time installing Debian on a laptop.
