It would help to know what the messages are leading up to the kernel panic.
When I upgraded to 2.4.18 I elected (stupidly) to put IDE disk support in a module, which meant it wasn't available at boot time, so the kernel couldn't mount the root filesystem. Bad idea. The message was something like "VFS: can't mount root filesystem. Kernel Panic." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew J Perrin - http://www.unc.edu/~aperrin Assistant Professor of Sociology, U of North Carolina, Chapel Hill [EMAIL PROTECTED] * andrew_perrin (at) unc.edu On Thu, 20 Jun 2002, Tim Wood wrote: > I have a Gateway Solo 5150 (now 3 1/2 years old) with an IBM DKLA 4.2GB > HDD. > > It's dual boot Win2k and Debian Testing.
