If you're using the non-free nvidia-drivers, take a look into
/usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.gz, especially
APPENDIX J: CONFIGURING TV-OUT
The docs are actually quite good. I'll also attach my
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 which should be debconf-proof and uses different
server layouts for connecting TV, external monitor or a beamer. The
comments and names are german but your email-address suggests that
you'll be able to read it ;-)
