[snip! boot worked with potato, but not after dist-upgrade to woody] > Is this caused by a LILO upgrade and incompatibilities with old > hardware? It seems to have been caused by the LILO upgrade. Bjørn Mork showed me how to downgrade the LILO to the potato version. I added the following line in /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/ potato main non-free contrib I created an /etc/apt/preferences file, containing: Package: lilo Pin: version 1:21.* Pin-Priority: 1001 I then did apt-get update apt-get install lilo and then did a reboot, which worked perfectly.
