ok, you modprobe slamr but did you issue the modemd command ???

i don't actualy remember the exact command but i think the modemd
command (that comes with the smartlink driver) must be issued tu link
the chipset to a device such as /dev/ttySL0

Also we should remember that unfortunately free software
is not widely used because people prefer to have something
to plug'n'play and not something to configure'n'work.
