Greetings. I have searched the archives of this and other lists and looked around with Google for this particular error.
One cause is bad hardware. However, I think I know what is causing it on my system, I just need to know how to work around it. I have an old laptop. It is an IBM ThinkPad 380D with a Pentium 150 MMX processor and 80 MB of RAM. I had trouble even finding an old-style PC Card Ethernet adapter that would do 10/100 instead of just 10 Mbps. The card I replaced my Xircom PS-CE2-10 with is a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 PC Card PCMPC100. I am wondering of the problem is caused by my laptop not being able to handle the traffic from the Ethernet card since it is linking at 100 Mbps Full-duplex. Here is the stuff from the end of dmesg about this card: eth0: Asix AX88190: io 0x300, irq 3, hw_addr 00:04:5A:9D:E3:93 eth0: found link beat eth0: autonegotiation complete: 100basetT-FD selected spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7. eth0: found link beat eth0: autonegotiation complete: 100basetT-FD selected eth0: too much work at interrupt, status 0x01 eth0: too much work at interrupt, status 0x01 eth0: Asix AX88190: io 0x300, irq 3, hw_addr 00:04:5A:9D:E3:93 eth0: found link beat eth0: autonegotiation complete: 100basetT-FD selected If it is the card causing the problems, is there some setting in the PCMCIA subsystem I can change or something I can mofidy in an initialization file for the Ethernet card to force it to assume Half-duplex instead of full? Or do you have any other advice? Thanks! -Jason PS - I apologize in advance for the legal disclaimer at the bottom of my email message. This is tacked on by our SMTP gateway and I have no control over it. Also, I have put in a request to have the disclaimer forcibly line-wrapped at 72 characters instead of just being one incredibly long line of text between the "header" and "footer". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Confidentiality notice: This e-mail message, including any attachments, may contain legally privileged and/or confidential information.
