IIRC there is some stuff related to fan but only with 2.6 kernel though I'm not sure this apply to the ibook G4. BTW, There should be a fan or thermal device in the OF tree at least, so maybe you should search one (it should be a node of an i2c bus). In that case, maybe lm-sensors may help you.
