IIRC, fbcon and vesafb are included into initrd. But there's some some configuration required. If you look into the default kernel's /lib/modules/`uname -r` directory, you'll find that there's a folder named initrd/ which contains the vesafb.ko module. Can someone explain how that works and how to get that functionality when rolling out our own custom kernels.
