If it is the Intell Wireless/Pro 3945, then I've just gone through this for building the ipw3945 module on a Dell 6400. I document it at: http://www.togaware.com/linux/survivor/Wireless.shtml Straightforward process. (The ieee80211 subsystem in Debian is too old I think - I had to "worry" about it!)
