How about continuous small/high vibrations, produced by the harddrive itself, or by other (DVD) drives or by the fans ? Could they impact the HD mechanic, or electronic components ?
I put the one of the HDs of my PC on softgum, on the case ground plate, (originally because there simply was no cartridge left) and it's running there for 5 years, on average shut down 4-5 times a day. ok, that's below 10.000 by now and maybe it starts barfing next year... but it's totally quiet, and i just thought that's a healthy thing. It's a 40 GB Seagate ST340something, and maybe modern drives with huge capacity also are more sensible anyway ? I can't imagine how this kind of vibrations could be minimized in a laptop, though, besides avoiding vibrating underground, and certain kinds of techno/house ;) -- Maren -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
