I tried p4_clockmod (in /etc/modules) which worked well, the system is still responsive (on my dell D610 laptop). But p4_clockmod suggests (when loading) to use speedstep_centrino for a Pentium M cpu. It also works well (I mean : battery is much saved and the cpu is very much cooler !).
