etch on lenovo r61i

I've used some time on my laptop now, without getting the graphic 100%. 
I've got the resoulution 1280x800, but I am not able to change it, if I 
do, KDE turns off and I find myself in loging-in. I don't see anythin 
when I press CTRL-Alt-F3. 

Audio is not 100%. I've installed everything I could find of alsa, have 
no error-messages. OK output, but bad recording via extern mic.

Has anyone got this laptop set up perfectly?
