I think the patterns I used for this check were based on others already in use in lintian. I agree that this should probably only be applied to real files, not to compat symlinks.
But, do we risk getting a false negative for cases where the real file has a weird filename whereas the soname (as provided by the symlink) follows one of the standard patterns? -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world.
