I noticed that the way I wrote this sentence isn't 100% correct. tmpfs mounts may be using swap space as well, which is of course on disk. Another solution that I forgot to mention is of course sizing the tmpfs mount to be larger. Both of these solutions are fine, but I think the defaults should be good for casual users where either of those would be possibly challenging.
