Thanks for filing this bug. It is a well-known but hopefully short-lived issue with some packages that combine multiple upstream source tarballs. We now unpack the orig sources and do an MD5 based comparison between the patched and the orig source trees. It re-enables large parts of the cruft check that had been turned off whenever diffstat output is not available---which was for any source format above 1.0. Now the tags run again on 3.0 (quilt) sources, which make up the majority of the archive. Upstream tarballs come with various prefixes and internal name conflicts that are probably responsible here.
