Support for the v5 format of the debian watch file is in progress in bug #1112320 and a false-positive in that support has recently been fixed in #1115463. I think I have encountered one more edge case or false-positive when using the partial support in v2.128.1 of lintian. The documentation[1] indicates that lines beginning with the '#' character are comments and are removed. However, if the first line of the file contains a comment, then lintian reports a 'debian-watch-not-mangling-version' warning: # testing Version: 5 A similar problem appears if multi-line comments (two commented lines adjacent to each other) appear later in a watch file.
