So we may have an alternative :-)
* start build in a way you can chroot into the image (--hook bash)
* inside chroot: export DISPLAY=localhost:1
* and then on your building machine (outside chroot): Xnest -ac :1
* install software (excluding Kernel?), change gnome/kde themes,
change relevant /etc/ files and logout.
* continue the build
This should be a way to be included in the wiki, easier IMHO. :-)
