live-initramfs is (AIUI) a fork of casper, which is maintained by
Ubuntu. Previously casper was then brought into Debian, but I believe
this has been dropped in favour of live-initramfs.

Presumably Debian's live-initramfs and Ubuntu's casper will share
code.
