Hi everybody,
I have 2 problems using the usb-hdd Live image profile in Debian Lenny and
persistent settings. Hopefully somebody can help me.
1.)
I have a 2 GB CF-card with the binary.img image flashed. The rest of the 2 GB
CF card is supposed to hold a 2nd partition with snapshots ("live-sn") either
as cpio archives or whatever. My problem: When I use the "persistent" flag,
the system drops to console in initramfs without any error message. Without
the "persistent" flag everything works fine(at least the system boots) but
"live-snapshot --refresh" (or "live-snapshot --refresh -d /dev/hda2") nags
that no resync string is contained in /etc/live.conf. How do I have to format
and label hda2 to get this running? Do I need to set the persistent flag?
Annotation: when setting persistent and formatting/labelling hda2 as
"live-rw" persistence works (but causesa flash write every time a file is
altered which significantly kills flash -- my native Debian install before
destroyed the CF card in less than 7 months...)
2.)
Daemons like mpd or postfix nag that they cannot create log files and therefore
don't start(e.g. /var/log/mpd/mpd.log). This is also the same when creating
the folders in config/chroot_local-includes and chmod'ing them to 777. A
"touch <filename>" in bash works flawlessly in the Live system. Is this a aufs
specialty or a permission problem? I disabled autologin and work via own
/etc/passwd, /etc/group and /etc/shadow files...
Can anyone help me further? I couldn't find much helpful information on these
issues...

Geode GX1 233 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 2GB CF card in IDE adapter, 16 GB USB stick.
