the official way to do it in debian is to use flashplugin-nonfree from sid (if sid or squeeze is the target distribution), or from backports.org (if lenny or etch is the target distribution). however, i *personally* use my own flash-player package from restricted.undebian.org, because i don't want to use installer packages that need internet during installation time.
