maybe you should look at the manpage before you tell others to do so. -m and -d are not the same.
to the problem itself: live-build currently doesn't support random codenames, as we depend on this for running certain hacks to make images possible. so if you build your own distribution, you should, if it's a subset of debian use the same codename, or, if it's a new thing, you should introduce a new mode for it.
