Read other mentions of boot parameters in the rest of the chapter. It would get tedious indeed if we were to explain what a 'parameter' is for each case, or even to cross-reference doc that explains it. I'm sorry, but the readability of the documentation must not suffer for our intended audience for the sake of including also a possible "for dummies" audience. In fact, at the boot prompt itself, help is available, so if there's any place where end-user-targetted instructions should go, that is it.
