OK, so I have the following in auto/config:

...
        --bootappend-live "locales=en_GB.UTF-8 keyboard-layouts=gb 
user-default-groups=audio,cdrom,dip,floppy,video,plugdev,netdev,powerdev,scanner,bluetooth,iocard
 persistent" \
...

but the only group user belongs to is user. Maybe I missed the point of the
manual page entry...?
