All, I apologize for reposting this, I sent it originally from work and it was badly mangled by outlook. I just read the announcment in LWN about your project. I am a PACS (Digital Imaging System) sysadmin. I was very interested to read the current med projects, especially the imaging related projects. I thought you might be interested in a open source software package called DCMTK. It is a fairly mature and very stable set of DICOM tools, including storage servers, worklist servers, handling DICOM images, sending and receiving images, and viewing/manipulating images. In other words the groundwork for a PACS system. I am currently using it on top of Linux as way to burn DICOM images to CD (we are trying to go completely filmless) as opposed to using film for out of clinic reviews and it ties nicely in with existing commercial applications (Radworks). I thought maybe your project could use this code base as it looks like it would tie in nicely to what you are doing. It is not GPL'd software, but I believe the copyright is GPL compatible and meets Debians standard:
