SleepyCat has an XML database in the works. I was originally hoping it could be based on this and that an end-user or developer could simply input and export XML data representing the medication. To me this sounds simply ideal because it makes so much sense: <drug> <tradename>Procardan</tradename> ...etc... If we provided a schema or DTD along with the tools to insert/export the data into the (non-XML) DB, then I believe end-users would be more easily able to adapt it to their needs. But, even when the data itself is ready, the next question is how are they to use it? "Link to BerekelyDB and open up file /usr/share/medications/whatever". Sure, but ideally this will be a product that end-users can simply install on their system. Other applications hook-in to it so that it provides medication info. We could even go so far as providing an HTTP front-end for them (from what I understand this isn't all tha difficult to do).
