Umm, yes. My fault. I assumed a new tarball would have been created in
the clean target. So my remark about autoreconfig to do this the "right
way" (tm) remains but my worrying about recreating orig.tar.gz was not
rectifyed and I think some more polishing for the package would have been
a good idea but it is not totally wrong as I thought in the first place.
