I totally agree with Andreas: with some packages, it might take a week or
more to finish writing tests. I had a rough list of packages I wanted to
work with, but after a month it started to inflate with other TODOs more
relevant at that time :-) I think it depends on how one used to manage
their time, whether they need to see a whole picture from the beginning or
it is appropriate for them to figure out tasks as they go along.

If you like to have a list of tasks/packages to choose from, let us know. I
have a couple of candidates in my mind, and I am in no doubt that Andreas
has a lot of them :-)
