I haven't asked, since I instead got informed about what blocks Scala packaging in an open bug asking for packaging Scala 2.12, of which thread https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=845113 explains sbt is mandatory for building new Scala versions and asks for help. I thus see the Java team is much aware of Scala state. Personally I don't think I can help with sbt packaging.
