Hi Steffen,

yes, we can add the build/ directories to the Files-Excluded field.  If the
Debian upstream version has +dfsg in it, then the Version 5 uscan template will
automatically remove the files.  And I am fine to have +dfsg regarless files
are really removed or not.

That would be nice.

In my experience, the main slowers for the transition are 1) patches that need
a refresh and 2) vendored libraries.  We are caught in the HDF5 transition to
their new major release and it is no fun.  Also I tried to unvendor the htslib
and failed because it is patched on the Bioconductor side.

I think that we should go for 1) move forward with vendored versions by default
and 2) unvendor on a case-by-case basis between BioC transitions.

This will open the path to further automation of the packaging process.
