Sooner or later we will switch to DEP14[1] and I think this will happen, once there is a reliable script that does the migration. This script can work best, if you stick to our default names right now. So please either use master or debian/latest (following DEP14). Yes, I know its boring that Debian takes soooooo long to decide about something ... For me the packaging looks good with the exception of d/changelog. I pushed a changelog with a quite verbose commit. A changelog entry describes the changes releated to the *previous* Debian package. If there is no previous package just keep the changelog clean. You also should open an ITP bug.
