Sorry, I still don't get it: - Which packages still depend on poppler, unless via xpdf? The ones directly dependant on poppler are not affected. - Which repositories containing poppler code are you talking about? - Which code has to be brought back to the xpdf package, causing problems? Isn't it enough to bump the upstream version and go on from there, as Adam suggested? - I did a search for reverse dependencies for xpdf (there are no build-rdeps) apt-cache rdepends xpdf xpdf-dbgsym : obvious libfontconfig1 : Breaks: xpdf (<= 3.03-11) valentina : Depends: ..., xpdf, ... libfontconfig1 : see above |octave-doc : Suggests: octave, xpdf | pdf-viewer |jabref : Suggests: gv | postscript-viewer, xpdf | pdf-viewer mozplugger : Suggests: ... xpdf, ... |xfig-doc : Suggests: iceweasel | www-browser, xfig, xpdf | pdf-viewer |xfe : Suggests: rpm, xpdf | evince, ... wiipdf : Depends: ..., xpdf, ... |vim-latexsuite: Suggests: xpdf | pdf-viewer, ... |urweb-doc : Recommends: xpdf | pdf-viewer python-scapy : Suggests: ..., xpdf, ... |ruby-tioga : Suggests: ..., xpdf, ... |python-tables-doc: Suggests: xpdf | pdf-viewer, www-browser |page-crunch : Depends: ..., xpdf-utils, ... As you can see there are only four packages depending on xpdf. The rest are merely Recommends and Suggests.
