Hello all. I'm looking for a sponsor for ckermit and git, both orphaned packages I am trying to adopt. I've previously posted separate RFSs for them, with no joy.
Of the two, ckermit is more important, as the version currently in debian is 4 years and 13 releases old. Description: a serial and network communications package C-Kermit is a combined serial and network communication software package offering a consistent, medium-independent, cross-platform approach to connection establishment, terminal sessions, file transfer, character-set translation, and automation of communication tasks. The kermit project are about to release a new version, but as there could be a sarge freeze any time, I think it would be a good idea to upload the current beta (which in the words of upstream, is "pretty solid"). Upstream are aware of the imminence of a sarge freeze, but with no announcements yet, it's hard to advise them how long they have got. The package is lintian- and linda-clean, and built with pbuilder. I tried and failed to resolve the non-DFSG-freeness of the license with upstream. They were willing to consider changes but we couldn't find a compromise that didn't jeopardise their license revenue, so unfortunately ckermit has to stay in non-free. As I have enabled the crypto options, it should move to non-US/non-free. It contains an extensible file system browser, an ascii/hex file viewer, a process viewer/killer and some other related utilities and shell scripts. It can be used to increase the speed and efficiency of most of the daily tasks such as copying and moving files and directories, invoking editors, compressing and uncompressing files, creating and expanding archives, compiling programs, sending mail, etc. It looks nice, has colors (if the standard ANSI color sequences are supported) and is user-friendly. . One of the main advantages of Git is its flexibility. It is not limited to a given set of commands. The configuration file can be easily enhanced, allowing the user to add new commands or file operations, depending on its needs or preferences. The package is GPLed, lintian- and linda-clean, and built with pbuilder. Files are at http://nessie.mcc.ac.uk/~ianb/debian/ (git_4.3.20*) thanks, Ian. -- Ian Beckwith - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://nessie.mcc.ac.uk/~ianb/ GPG fingerprint: AF6C C0F1 1E74 424B BCD5 4814 40EC C154 A8BA C1EA Listening to: Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights - Obstacle 2 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
