Hi mentors,
I am returning to Debian packaging after a bit of a holiday (too long).
There is a package I need for myself, which if it works reliably (and
the licensing is all free) I would package properly for the Debian
Multimedia Team (ITP etc.). I just want to test it first using a ppa: on
my Ubuntu Studio machines, but with a view to maintaining it properly in
the future.

The respository is a collection of git sub-modules.
I went back to my favourite old packaging bible from the Debian GIS team
(thanks Bas), but importing the tarball failed:
$ gbp import-orig --pristine-tar ../gxplugins_1.0_src.tar.bz2
What will be the source package name? [gxplugins]
What is the upstream version? [1.0]
gbp:error: The orig tarball contains .git metadata - giving up.
It is very likely that I missed some helpful guidance on this before. My
online searching did not find anything immediately helpful, only that
there would be manual cleaning of the tarball every new release.
Any ideas?
Ross
