You are absolutely right. I do have a Salsa account and have already set up the packaging repository there, complete with a passing Salsa CI pipeline. I have just updated the Vcs-* fields in debian/control to properly point to Salsa instead of GitHub. I have also squashed the debian/changelog into a single "Initial release" entry to fix the history issue you pointed out.
