As a recent adopter of a few lib packages I am still working all of this out (there is not any GOOD documentation on it). The foo1 name is supposed (I believe) to indicate its soname. So if your lib if libfoo.so.1 it is package foo1 or libfoo1. If it was libfoo.so.2 or 0 the number would change. This allows old versions to exist for backwards compatibility.
