A little update on the matter: We are testing a feature on mentors.debian.net where we monitor the debian-devel-changes@ lists (thanks to those who gave the hint on #debian-devel) and remove packages from the mentors repository once it has been accepted in 'unstable'. That will at least avoid confusion with packages that go straight through. Those that need to be confirmed by the FTP masters are obviously unaffected.
