Probably because of GTK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED being defined... ./configure --enable-deprecations=no This should be one of the differences between upstream git and upstream release tarballs (but it's not uncommon that upstream forgets to disable deprecations in release tarballs as well.... hopefully this is something that will improve upstream with a couple of more releases).
