It sounds like your prerm is missing the code needed to delete the
.pyc files. For dh_python2 this looks approximately like the code
below. On the installed system, take a look at
/var/lib/dpkg/info/python-gavodachs.prerm or in the build directory
after a successful build, look at
debian/python-gavodachs/DEBIAN/prerm.
