I use git-buildpackage (or bzr-buildpackage, depending on the VCS used by the project) which seems to automatically tell debuild to ignore stuff in the .gitignore (.bzrignore) file. It just works., no manual intervention other than maintaining the ignore file. -- Stephen M.
