Hello, I followed multiple instructions that I found online on how to install Debian on my O2 (180mhz R5K, 192megs of ram, 2gig drive). After initially wrestling with tftp and then partitioning problem I got stuck on something much worse.
I'm using boot image found on this site: http://www.cyrius.com/debian/o2/ and everything goes smoothly all the way to the point where the installer formats the partition (ext2/3). When that part of the installer loads error console spews out something about modprobe and the fact it cannot parse something. Then when I'm selecting OK for "Apply changes? Your partition will be permantly wiped blah blah...". Then it promptly crashes. Error console reports that mkfs (or something of that nature) seg faulted. I tried ext2 and 3.. same result. Harddrive is partitioned like this (it's exactly the same as here: http://www.pvv.org/~pladsen/Indy/HOWTO.html, although mine doesn't have anything under "Directory Entries" and frankly I have no idea what that is): Disk /dev/sda (SGI disk label): 67 heads, 62 sectors, 1010 cylinders Units = cylinders of 4154 * 512 bytes ----- partitions ----- Pt# Device Info Start End Sectors Id System 1: /dev/sda1 boot 75 950 3638904 83 Linux native 2: /dev/sda2 swap 951 1009 245086 82 Linux swap 9: /dev/sda3 0 74 311550 0 SGI volhdr 11: /dev/sda4 0 1009 4195540 6 SGI volume ----- Bootinfo ----- Bootfile: /unix ----- Directory Entries ----- I have no idea where to go from here other than getting a different boot image.
