Hi, after some digging I found the source of my problems: it was my CD-ROM drive! After removing it from the SCSI-chain a re-install was successful, without changing any PROM variables or partition entries.
I know that the CD-ROM is OK, as I've tested it before, but I've set it up to do parity checking. So, I'll try again with partity disabled. Thanks, Uli -- Dipl. Inf.
