Dear list,
Wheezy runs fine on my SGI O2, so I bought an Octane ... love the cases ;)
I checked http://www.debian.org/ports/mips/ and mipsel, and found no
information regarding an Octane.
But I'm curious as arcload (http://packages.debian.org/stable/arcload) supports
it ...
Is it possible to install Debian on an Octane?
Support for Octane never made is into the kernel and has seriously
bitrotted since it was written (~2.6.19). Thus Debian can't support
Octane.
Although the description and possibly some files are still accessible
http://www.linux-mips.org/~skylark/
I think that version of kernel mandates Debian "Etch", although it might
turn out to be possible to walk it forward (i.e. with manual kernel
patches etc.) to "Lenny". Lenny is about as far as you'll get with
multiple older architectures (SPARC, PPC Mac G3 and so on), but in
general the infrastructure (i.e. libc etc.) is fresh enough for it to be
useful.
