Depending on your soundcard you should be able to achieve this using a mixer utility. alsamixergui mentions the word 'mono' on a couple of the sliders. Whether this actually does anything useful is another matter. Also worth trying gamix or the GNOME mixer if you have it on board. cheers tim hall
