Francois is a computer science student at the University of Waterloo
in Canada. He has been following the free software movement for the
past 4-5 years. While he has been mostly helping others with
installation issues for Debian, he also spent time promoting the free
software movement. He wants to be more actively involved in debian by
maintaining a few packages. He also has written some utilities himself
which he wants to debianize later on.

Francois and I discussed the Social Contract and the DFSG. He
demonstrated to me that he understands the principles and extent of
these documents, and that he is aware of the responsibilities of a
debian maintainer. He also explicitly agreed to abide by the DMUP. He
also answered some questions on copyrights and licenses to my
satisfaction.

Francois has packaged gnutrition, a nutrition analysis software
written for Gnome. I looked through the package, and was satisfied
with its quality. It is lintian clean. His advocate is Ryan Goldbeck,
and he had this to say of Francois:
