Well, I started to use Linux years ago (with 0.99.pl13) because I
wnated to write a program larger than 640k. Linux was free (as in
beer), it allowed to use the whole 4MB of my system and had also
   a free compiler.

It took some more years until I started to help with the development
of free (as in speech) software, this came when I found interest in
the MIPS achitecture. In course of that, I became upstream maintainer
of MIPS binutils, and contribute patches for kernel/toolchain/glibc
when the bugs get to annoying. I also took over the delo (DEcstation
boot LOader) upstream and improved it substantially.

For Debian, I'm primarily interested in the mips/mipsel ports, where
Debian is IMHO the most viable distribution. To improve it, I started
to help the debian-installer effort, concentrating on the mips port.
It is now in a nearly-releasable state, but lacks daily built test
image and a few other things which need to be done by a DD.

Searching Google for him affirms the picture I had of him: A lot of
mails regarding the mips-port (including own code, patches, ...) and
   does not return anything offensive.

However, I'm not a mips-users myself, and therefore asked joeyh for his
experiences with Thiemo for the d-i; also, tbm forwarded me his opinion
he sent to Thiemos first AM. Both mails are very positive and are
   attached to this report.

2. Philosophy and Procedures
----------------------------

Thiemo demonstrated an excellent understanding of Debian's Philosophy
and Procedures. He answered all Questions about the Social Contract, the
DFSG, the BTS etc. and had nearly no problems with it. He showed that he
really knows what he talks about.

3. Tasks and Skills
-------------------

Thiemo is maintainer of genisovh, linux-kernel-di-mips and
linux-kernel-di-mipsel and seems to become maintainer of the mips(el)
kernel packages. All packages are present in the linux archive,
and seem to be - as far as I could judge - to be in good shape.

Thiemo has also direct commit rights to the d-i, and fixed some issues
there. Please see joeyhs mail for details.

He also answered my questions regarding T&S without problems.

3a. Personal comment
--------------------

Thiemo responded to my emails in a good, precise and fast way. During
the time, it became quite clear that he has (much) more knowledge than
required to go through. Also, his whole way to deal with the questions,
to answer mails etc. tells me that he is one of the people we should
like to see as part of Debian.

4. Account information
----------------------

   Preferred account name: ths
Address to forward E-Mails to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Cheers,
Andi
