Applicant writes:
I am a 29 years old computer science engineer specialised in CORBA
C++ development.
I learned to use Linux and discovered free software in my
undergraduate days. The school had a strong commitment to
opensource: we had Linux boxes, and seminars on free software were
regularly organised. Then a student showed me Debian GNU/Linux. I
was delighted to see you didn't have to choose the software you
want at installation time. The clean packaging system, and the
fine granularity you get from it, impressed me a lot.
I have learnt so many things using free software and Debian that I
find only natural to volunteer my time and contribute back. I want
to belong to the Debian community since it is generous and
ambitious.
I've started promoting Debian convincing and helping friends to
convert to Debian, and using it at work. My main contribution so
far is package co-maintenance: I am a member of the ACE+TAO and
stlport5 teams. I also open bugs, provide patches and reply
questions on mailing lists or irc when I see fit. I attended the
June 2006 French Bug Squashing Party held in Paris.
I am interested in packaging more software in Debian, and in
improving existing ones. Being a CORBA enthusiastic, I plan to add
more CORBA tools in the Debian archive. Eventually, I would like a
discussion about CORBA to take place on debian-devel@: packaging
practices, virtual packages, and maybe a policy.
2. Philosophy and Procedures

Thomas has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and
procedures. He answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. He committed to uphold the SC and
DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.
3. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Thomas has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Thomas is maintainer of stlport5 and ace (sponsored by and
co-maintained with Thorsten Werner and Brian Nelson). All packages
are in good shape. He also answered my other questions regarding
T&S without problems and provided patches for RC bugs.
