2. Background
-------------
Applicant writes:
My first contact with Linux happend when my father gave me some
SuSE Linux CDs. Considering that these where labeld something around
9.* it must have been around 2004. I was using some free software back
then already (my old GPG Key dates back to 2003) but I mostly became
aware of free software in this context.
Things began to move as I took out a Ubuntu CD from a German
magazine. After that I soon switched to Debian and became interested in
spending some time working on it, where I was welcomed really warmly.
While my fist upload actually already was a game it took me some
time to get into the pkg-games team where I guess I'm a active (and
happy) member.
After becomming involved in a (mostly) free game project I got
used to better understand the implications and goals of free software
while discussing with rather skeptic (to the strictness) people
After starting University in fall (I just completed my school
education this spring) I hope to find some additional interesting
field in Debian in addition to my work in the games team which will
include some trac plugins I use and maybee some commitment in
debian-security.
My motivation for working on free software is learning new and
interesting things. Debian is a perfect example of a *large* project
working together and with the various teams and activities it provides
a wide range of interesting stuff to learn.
3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Christoph has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and
procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way.
Christoph committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work
and accepts the DMUP.
He is well integrated in the Games team (and already was before
starting NM), and communicating very well on various mailing lists
and IRC channels (#-mentors, #-devel, #-kbsd, among others.)
4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Christoph has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
He is the maintainer of a lot of games-related packages (I
sponsored almost all of them), and is preparing trac-related
packages in addition to those. All packages are in good shape.
Christoph also answered my other questions regarding T&S without
problems and provided patches for RC bugs, for example: taking care
of FTBFSes or crashes on various architectures, even on non-trivial
ones.
5. Recommendation
-----------------
I wholeheartedly recommend to accept Christoph Egger as a
Debian Developer.
