For nm.debian.org, at 2026-01-16:
I support Andreas Dolp <[email protected]>'s request to become a Debian
Maintainer.
I have worked with Andreas Dolp on packaging of the Suricata IDS and other
packages from its ecosystem (libhtp, suricata-update) and I consider them as
having sufficient technical competence.

Andreas has been and still is a long-time user of Suricata on Debian. At the
beginning of our interactions, Andreas mainly tested Suricata stable backports
provided by me. In July 2025, Andreas started contributing more deeply by
finalizing work on a Suricata 8 package, paying attention to detail and showing
knowledge of Debian practices. That meant finishing my preliminary work and
also adding new features (landlock and hwloc support, etc.).
Since the release of Suricata 8.0.x, Andreas has independently prepared
upstream version updates for unstable and also had backports ready soon after
testing migration. He also took care of addressing many security issues in
stable that had been sitting untouched for a long time, preparing fixes from
upstream patches and communicating with the security team. All of these uploads
were sponsored by me and their preparation was done with diligence and
consideration of the process.
In other words, he was incredibly helpful and basically took over regular
package maintenance from me -- and he definitely appears motivated to continue
to do so. Andreas is also pleasant to work with and welcomes feedback. Our
communication primarily took place via Discord (chat and video calls).

I have personally worked with Andreas Dolp <[email protected]> (key
6EED8674F8A1557A057382AAD74D4EE0580CA4FC) for about 2 years, and I know he can
be trusted to have upload rights for his own packages, right now.
