Mate and I are working at Canonical. As the primary part of his work, Mate maintains grub for Ubuntu and Debian, and has been an Ubuntu Core Developer since March 2025. Mate has been the leading grub maintainer for a bit more than 2 years, taking this over from a short stint in my hands. The grub packaging is extraordinarily complicated and Mate has managed to pick that up and fix bugs and significantly rework parts of it.
