We are in better possition than during the two latest release tentatives (december 2003, august/sept 2004). read the latest announcement about this on debian-devel-announce. Gnome 2.8 is entering sarge, and there may be chances for KDE 3.3 even, so i have no doubt it will work out for ara too.
